adminKano State Governor Abba Yusuf has extended a personal apology to National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu for previously accusing him of interfering in the ongoing Kano emirship crisis.
According to sources reported by Daily Trust, Governor Yusuf’s apology came during a meeting held on Thursday at Ribadu’s office in Abuja.
This meeting was part of an effort to reconcile following the governor’s controversial decision to dethrone Emir Aminu Bayero and reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi, despite a court order halting such actions.
Governor Yusuf had also ordered Bayero’s arrest upon his return to Kano and the occupation of the Nassarawa palace, citing concerns over potential unrest. This led to the deployment of security forces to the palace, indicating possible federal support.
In the wake of these events, State Deputy Governor Aminu A Gwarzo accused Ribadu of aiding Bayero’s return to Kano, a claim Ribadu denied, threatening legal action unless an apology was issued. Gwarzo has since apologized, attributing his statement to incorrect intelligence.
During the meeting, Governor Yusuf reportedly expressed his regret verbally to Ribadu, seeking a personal reconciliation beyond public apologies. “The governor and the NSA spoke heart-to-heart in Hausa. He felt that a public apology was insufficient, hence the visit to Abuja,” a source said.
This gesture aims to mend relations and address the tensions arising from the emirship crisis, underscoring the importance of clear communication and mutual understanding in resolving such conflicts.
